Wisconsin Wildlife

The North American migration of the monarch butterfly is one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Each autumn hundreds of millions monarch from states and provinces east of the Rocky Mountains fly southward toward their over wintering destination in central Mexico. 

You can participate in this fascinating spectacle by attending one of several monarch tagging events below.  Children, parents and other participants catch migrating monarchs in fields, carefully apply numbered wing tags and release them to continue their journey.  to Mexico.
